Composer, Engineer and Producer Jim Pooley lives in Dartford, Kent (UK). Jim’s style of music is contemporary with ambient undertones. However, he will listen to anything be it jazz to rock, classical to electro, folk to hip-hop.
From an early age, music was special to Jim; he was able to hum a Mozart piece before he could even talk (admittedly, he was a late talker). His fascination with music was further fuelled by his parents buying him classical tapes, and at the age of eleven giving him a portable Yamaha keyboard. He would spend hours playing along to the built-in drum beats oblivious to what was going on around him.
Jim’s interest in music continued right through to secondary school where he studied music technology at A-Level. After leaving school, Jim went on to attend The Lost Glory School of Worship and Ministry at Folly’s End in Croydon (UK). During this four-month residential course, Jim was given the opportunity to produce a two track EP of other students’ songs. It was at this time that Jim started seriously to consider a career in the music industry. He then studied on a course at the British Academy of New Music in creative music production.
At the same time, Jim also started to establish relationships in the music industry. In his studio, Paul Higgs kindly let Jim sit in on a few sessions before allowing him the opportunity to assist in the recording of Helen Yousaf’s debut album, ‘Child of Mine’ as well as other sessions. This experience proved invaluable to him as well as providing real-world experience of music recording.
While on the Lost Glory School, Jim met artist Oliver Pengilley. After the School, the two of them began discussing the possibility of an audio-visual project. Over the next 18 months, this evolved into a DVD release called Representation (click here for more information).
